Launched in September following an idea from Edna Goodall to address a need of plain good old fashion "someone to talk to" company for those who for one reason or another find themselves somewhat isolated and lacking the day to day company and friendship of their peers.
Walk Across the Room

The idea found an immediate accord with the Church both in the expansion of its 20/20 Vision to impact the wider community and the practical application of a recent church study programme "Just Walk Across The Room".

The Club soon became a reality and the second get together in October saw the overall attendance rise to forty-four with a further twelve who volunteered to help out with the hosting and the practical organisation.
Pastor Adrian McBride This meeting was again opened by Pastor Adrian McBride welcomed everyone who had come and introduced himself informing all present as to who and what he was with, as always, a sprinkling of his Irish humour. He gave a brief resume of the Wednesday Club's formation and its hopes for the future. Pensions Team Remembrance Day
In finishing he extended an invitation to the forth coming Remembrance Day Service and to the British Consulate's Pensions Roadshow.

Wednesday Club
For those who volunteered to help with the hosting it was a hectic time with an endless flow of tea, coffee and cakes being dispensed but also a great satisfaction in seeing people enjoying a time together and having the opportunity to make friends and have fun.

A quiz was again well received and brought much laughter throught the antics of the hilarious Quiz Master Trio John, Dennis and Steve and is now set to be a regular feature.

A survey of those present for ideas to expand and enhance the activities of the Wednesday Club brought a variety of suggestions and a development meeting has already been scheduled to make some of them a reality.
December's meeting heralded a "Christmas Special" with a festive buffet, mince pies and gifts.

The Wednesday Club just keeps growing and is now seeing some sixty people coming and going throughout the morning. The activities of the club are also expanding with various trips and sporting events being planned.

The January gathering included a presentation by two of the nursing staff from the Mercy Ship "Africa Mercy" which was berthed in Santa Cruz. The presentation gave a first hand insight to the work of the Mercy Ships and heart warming accounts of the hope and healing that it brings in delivering free World Class Healthcare and Community Development Services to the forgotten poor. The presentation concluded with a lively time of questions and answers session.

One of the endearing aspect of the Wednesday Club is that ordinary people rub shoulders with and can see that christians are not the strange individuals they are so often portrayed to be but the genuine, caring and lively people their faith has enabled them to be.

So - Why is it called the Wednesday Club?
Simply because it meets on a Wednesday - the last Wednesday of each month...
And that makes it an easy date to remember as well!
